Richards was born in Dunvant, Wales
in 1903 near Swansea.
He was a painter and printmaker and
is considered to be one of the most
important British artists of the 20th
Century, ranking amongst Moore and
Nicholson.
A major retrospective of his work
was held at the Tate in 1981 and also
at the National Museum in Wales in
2002.
He died in London in 1971.
