Born in London in
1936.
British painter and printmaker who lives
and works in Chelsea. He studied at the
Chelsea School of Art (1956-60) where he
later taught (1963-71).
He is widely regarded as a
representative of the third generation
of British Pop Art. In 1965 he was
awarded the Prix de Jeunes Artistes in
Paris. A retrospective of his work was
held at the Tate Gallery in London in
1981. His earlier work was influenced by
a number of artists, including
Lichstenstein but he now experiments
with combinations of abstract grid
structures and figurative motives.
In both his paintings on hardboard and
his screenprints he depicts everyday
subjects which he treats in strong
colours within clear, black outlines.
